The Benefits of Obedience
# 1
Jer 7:21 Thus says the Lord
of hosts, the God of Israel: “Add your burnt offerings to your
sacrifices and eat meat.
:22 For I did not speak to
your fathers, or command them in the day that I brought them out of
the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices.
:23 But this is what I
commanded them, saying, 'Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and
you shall be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have
commanded you, that it may be well with you.'
:24 Yet they did not obey or
incline their ear, but followed the counsels and the dictates of
their evil hearts and went backward and not forward.
:25 Since the day that your
fathers came out of Egypt until this day, I have even sent to you all
My servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them.
:26 Yet they did not obey Me
or incline their ear, but stiffened their neck. They did worse than
their fathers.
:27 “Therefore you shall
speak all these words to them, but they will not obey you. You shall
also call to them, but they will not answer you.
:28 “So you shall say to
them, 'This is a nation that does not obey the voice of the Lord
their God nor receive correction. Truth has perished and has been cut
off from their womb,
Verse 23 says: Obey My voice
and walk in all the ways that I commanded you that it may be well
with you.
Obedience means act of
compliance, submission, willingness, complying with a willing
submission.
Obey means do, observe,
submit, act of compliance to an act, order, demand, command, request.
Forced obedience is not
really obedience.
One of the benefits of
obedience is He will be your God and you can be His people.
1 Sam 15:22 So Samuel
said:”Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and
sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is
better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams.
IS 1:10 Hear the word of the
Lord, you rulers of Sodom: give ear to the law of our God, you people
of Gomorah:
:11 “To what purpose is
the multitude of your sacrifices to Me?” says the Lord. “I have
had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed cattle. I do
not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs or goats.
:12 “When you come to
appear before Me, who has required this from your hand, to trample My
courts?
:13 Bring no more futile
sacrifices; incense is an abomination to Me. The New Moons, the
Sabbaths, and the calling of assemblies – I cannot endure iniquity
and the sacred meeting.
:14 Your New Moons and your
appointed feasts my soul hates; they are a trouble to Me, I am weary
of bearing them.
:15When you spread out your
hands, I will hide My eyes from you; even though you make many
prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood.
IS 1:19 If you are willing
and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land.
Is 29:13 Therefore the Lord
said: “Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths and
honor Me with their lips, but have removed their hearts far from Me,

when you did not know God, you served those which by nature are not
gods.

bondage?
:10 You observe days and
months and seasons and years.

Deut 26:16This day the Lord
your God commands you to observe these statutes and judgments;

and with all your soul.
:17 Today you have
proclaimed the Lord to be your God, and that you will walk in His
ways and keep His statutes, His commandments, and His judgments, and
that you will obey His voice.
:18 Also today the Lord has
proclaimed you to be His special people, just as He promised you that
you should keep all His commandments,
:19and that He will set you
high above all nations which He has made, in praise, in name, and in
honor, and that you may be a holy people to the Lord your God, just
as He has spoken.”
