The Immutability of God

Heb 6:10 For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
:11 And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end,
:12 that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
:13 For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself,
:14 saying, “ Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.”
:15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
:16 For men indeed swear by the greater, and an oath for confirmation is for them an end of all dispute.
:17 Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath,
:18 that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.
:19 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil,
:20 where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizdek.

Immutability means no change.

If God is immutable it means there is NO change in God.

Mal 3:6 For I am the Lord, I do not change, therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.

Jesus, the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Man is ever changing.

Num 23:19 “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?

Is 14:24 The Lord of hosts has sworn, saying, “ Surely, as I have thought, so it shall come to pass, and as I have purposed, so it shall stand:

Is 14:27 For the Lord of hosts has purposed, and who will annul it? His hand is stretched out, and who will turn it back?”

Walk in the word that you know.

Heb 6:17 Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath,
:18 that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.

His promise and His oath are 2 immutable things.

Promise = law term = summons upon/ proclaim or announce.

God's promises come with conditions.

Oath means enclosure, confinement, limit. Root is same as root word for fence.

Confines God to do exactly what He said He will do.

Ps 89:33 Nevertheless My lovingkindness I will not utterly take from him, nor allow My faithfulness to fail.

Is 62:6 I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they shall never hold their peace day or night. You who make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent.

Heb 3:10 Therefore I was angry with that generation, and said, “They always go astray in their heart, and they have not known My ways.”
:11 So I swore in My wrath, “They shall not enter My rest.”

Heb 3:18 And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey?

If you don't believe God made a promise you will not enter into His rest.

Gen 22:15 Then the Angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time out of heaven,
:16 and said: “By Myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son -
:17 blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies.
:18 In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”

  1. Have we been obedient to what the word tells us to do? Or have we made excuses? Phil 2:3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better then himself.
  2. Are you sowing? Mal 3:8 “Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, “In what way have we robbed You?” In tithes and offerings. Tithe is not a new testament principle. Offering is.
Gal 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. Hosea 8:7 “They sow the wind, and reap the whirlwind, the stalk has no bud; it shall never produce meal. If it should produce, aliens will swallow it up.
  1. What is God's promise about your need? What is God's condition?
God has given us His promise no matter what our needs are. But we must be obedient to His word.
