The Ministering Gifts of the Holy Spirit to the Church #9

1 Cor 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant.
:4 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
:5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord.
:6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all.
:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:
:8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit,
:9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit,
:10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
:11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

  1. word of knowledge
  2. word of wisdom
  3. discerning of spirits

Not the gift of observation. Pray about what you see.

It can turn into criticism if you are not careful.

Mark 5:1 Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gadarenes.

Ghosts are really demonic spirits manifesting itself as someone you know.

Discerning is not only evil spirits, God may show you angels.

Heb 13:1 Let brotherly love continue.

You may end up entertaining angels.

1 Chronicles 12:32 of the sons of Issachar who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, their chiefs were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their command.

All christians need to be discerning of the times (not necessarily spirits).

Matt 7:15 Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.
:16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?

By observation of their lives you can tell.

Heb 5:12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.
:13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe.
:14 But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reasons of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

1 Cor 12:3 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.

1 Jn 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Deut 13:1 “If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder and the sign or wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying,” Let us go after other gods'- which you have not known- ' and let us serve them,'

God may be testing your discerning.

Acts 16:16 Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune telling.
:17 This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying,”These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.”
:18 And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And he came out that very hour.

Paul had discerning of spirits.

2 Thess 2:9 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders,
:10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of truth, that they might be saved.
:11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie,
:12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

1 Kings 22:8 So the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is still one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the Lord; but I hate him, because he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil.” And Jehoshaphat said, “Let not the king say such things!”

Basically he was saying, not him, he never tells me what I want to hear.

When you are ministering to someone and it becomes a debate, you are probably arguing in your own ability and with their religious spirits.

Seek the Lord for wisdom, guidance, discernment, for your authority, for faith, do it in the spirit.
