Are we still watching?
Mark 13:32 But of that day and hour no
one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the
Father.
:33 Take heed, watch and pray; for you
do not know when the time is.
:34 It is like a man going to a far
country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and
to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch.
:35 Watch therefore, for you do not
know when the master of the house is coming – in the evening, at
midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning -
:36 lest, coming suddenly, he find you
sleeping.
:37 And what I say to you, I say to
all: Watch!”
God tells us 4 times right here to be
watching for God's return.
Watch for Jesus. Watch our walking with the Lord as we watch for Jesus.
2 Pet 3:1 Beloved, I now write to you
this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by
way of reminder),
:2 that you may be mindful of the words
which were spoken before by the holy prophets and of the commandment
of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior,
:3 knowing this first: that scoffers
will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts,
:4 and saying, “Where is the promise
of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue
as they were from the beginning of creation.”
:5 For this they willfully forget: that
by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing
out of water and in the water,
:6 by which the world that then existed
perished, being flooded with water.
:7 But the heavens and the earth which
are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the
day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
:8 But, beloved, do not forget this one
thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a
thousand years as one day.
:9 The Lord is not slack concerning His
promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not
willing that any should perish but that all should come to
repentance.
:10 But the day of the Lord will come
as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a
great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the
earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.
Matt 24:42 Watch therefore, for you do
not know what hour your Lord is coming.
:43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.
:43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.
:44 Therefore you also be ready, for
the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
:45 “Who then is a faithful and wise
servant, who his master made ruler over his household, to give them
food in due season?
:46 Blessed is that servant whom his
master, when he comes, will find so doing.
Watch has several words it is taken
from.
- gregoreo means keep awake, to be spiritually alert. Gregory means watcher
- tereo means to keep and observe
- agrupneo means to be sleepless, to chase sleep, to chase away spiritual sleep
Heb 10:36 For you have need of
endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you many
receive the promise:
:37 “For yet a little while, and He
who is coming will come and will not tarry.

things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Amen. Even so, come,
Lord Jesus!

the Lord.

bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will
appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
Wait with an expectation.

master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he
would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.
1 Pet 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant;
because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion,
seeking whom he may devour.
Sober means saved, have a saved sound
mind. Have your mind free of intoxicants.
Be watchful. Vigilance means watchful.
The devil begins by tempting you in the
mind.
2 Cor 10:5 casting down arguments and
every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God,
bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
Phil 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever
things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just,
whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things
are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything
praiseworthy – meditate on these things.

and diligently keep yourself, lest you forget the things your eyes

mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!

the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my
strength and my Redeemer.

power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

preserves his life, but he who opens wide his lips shall have
destruction.

tongue keeps his soul from troubles.

enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is
weak.”

and day with tears.

and godly in the present age,
Watching and discernment go hand in
hand.
Matt 25:13 “Watch therefore, for you
know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.
Lk 12:37 Blessed are those servants
whom the master, when he comes will find watching. Assuredly, I say
to you that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, and
will come and serve them.
1 Thess 5:5 You are all sons of light
and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.
:6 Therefore let us not sleep, as
others do, but let us watch and be sober.

Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown.

thief., Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he
walk naked and they see his shame.”

with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the
Lord will uncover their secret parts,”
